The Guiness Book of World Records lists Yao Defen as the tallest woman in the world. She currently lives in China. Her current height is 7 feet 8 inches and she weights well over 400 pounds. Her height is a not a genetic anomaly it is actually the result of a tumor located near her pituitary gland. Her own mother stands at a diminutive five feet tall. During puberty she, like many other kids, experienced a growth spurt but it was unlike her peers in that she was the height of a pro-basketball player, standing at 6.5 feet tall by the time she was 15. She has undergone several operations in order to remove the tumor but each time it has grown back. Unfortunately, she has to consistently take medication in order to combat its effects, such as poor vision and hypertension.
